Opening league match of Burnside U16 football season
Last night Burnside’s U16 Boys Football team began their league campaign against old foes St Thomas More. Burnside started brightly but unfortunately went behind to a well worked goal from St Thomas More. 0-1
After 15 minutes coach Mr Crozier, made a couple of tactical substitutions and shuffled his side around. These changes had the desired effect, with Burnside now being able to compete in midfield making the game a much mire even contest. Numerous chances went begging for both sides. Some terrific saves from goalkeeper Jackson Frank and a spectacular last ditch goal line clearance from Jamie Dawson kept Burnside in the game.
With 10 minutes to go Burnside equalised through an exquisitely headed ball from Lewis Cowan which looped over the keeper and crossed the line. Despite protests from the away side the goal was given. 1-1
After conceding St Thomas More attacked with renewed vigour and within two minutes the pressure told and Burnside conceded a penalty which was converted to take the score to 2-1 to the visitors.
Unfortunately Burnside were unable to comeback for a second time and St Thomas More just shaded a closely fought contest. Scoring two late goals as Burnside pressed on for another equaliser and fatigue set in. The final score was 4-1 to St Thomas More.
The next fixture is on Wednesday 11th October at home against Marden High. All spectators are welcome.
