Consultation on Burnside College’s admission arrangements in 2021/22

Following a six week period of consultation the school received 2 responses.  Below were the key points raised and considered by the governing body from these responses:

  • Will choices be restricted for parents in 2021 and beyond?

Response: In considering the proposal to reduce the school PAN the governing body have considered the historic number of applications to the school / preferences for places (including numbers of first choice applications) as well as the local authority’s future projections up to 2024.  The proposed PAN of 208 meets the projected demand. As the consultation documents state “the current projections show that there will be sufficient places available for local children with this reduced PAN in 2021 and subsequent years”.

  • Does the local authority support this change?

Response: the school communicated this proposal with the local authority prior to starting the consultation period.  No objection was raised to this proposal from the local authority through the consultation process.

  • Will there be enough school places for pupils from different local authorities?

Response: In considering the proposal to reduce the school PAN the governing body have considered the historic number of applications to the school / preferences (including numbers of first choice applications) for places as well as the local authority’s future projections up to 2024.  The proposed PAN of 208 meets the projected demand. This data includes applications from other authorities.

  • Will the governing body keep the PAN under review if local need and applications for places exceeded the reduced figure in the future?

Response: Yes.  The governing body will keep the school’s admissions arrangements under review (including the school PAN) as stated in the consultation document.

Following this public consultation the governing body have now determined the school’s admission arrangement for 2021/2022 (including a PAN of 208).  A full copy of the admission arrangements can be found on the school’s website.
